What's involved?

There are a lot of wrestling clubs in Colorado Springs. Some can cost several hundred dollars a month. We're not like those clubs. We charge a flat fee of $100 per wrestler for the entire season. This covers the cost of a team T-shirt for your wrestler, end of season awards, and other miscellaneous club expenses. We're not in this for money, we want to help develop your kids into the best wrestlers they can be and prepare them for high-school wrestling. Our club coaches are middle and high school coaches in the south Colorado Springs area, and volunteer their time because a strong local wrestling club means strong local school programs as well.

Note: tournament entry fees are not included in the $100 club dues. Each league tournament has a $25 entry fee. State level, Regional level, and National level events will vary but are more expensive.

Schedule

Middle school and high school wrestling is the style known as Folkstyle wrestling, and this is also the style we teach the younger kids to prepare them for their future school teams. This season runs from October through Mid-March. Widefield WC competes in the Peak 2 Peak league, a statewide league with tournaments almost every weekend of the season. Your wrestler can compete in as many, or as few, tournaments as they would like to (or as many as their parents want to pay for). We will also typically travel to at least one out-of state national tournament per season. There are also several national tournaments held in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Pueblo every year. Just like our local events, these are not required, but we do encourage everyone who can to participate. These tournaments are held in pretty cool venues and the kids have a blast.

After Folkstyle season concludes, we will move to the Olympic (or International) styles: Freestyle and Greco Roman. These styles are complementary to Folkstyle, but the rules and points systems are slightly different. The techniques they learn in these styles will also improve their Folkstyle wrestling. This season runs from March through August, though our club usually wraps up for the season after the State Championships in late May.
